For Mother's Day, we want to offer the best, something truly special, and it seems that Andrew Lawrence-King and the Tallinn Baroque Orchestra can manage it. Art music, dance tunes, and opera arias from Spain are not very common, and if you add music from Portugal, Africa, and South America, you can confidently promise that the ticket money will be returned to listeners who are already familiar with all these pieces. Indeed, musicologists divide all baroque music into Italian and French styles, but we cannot find such a firework of rhythms anywhere else – it is special and does not fit into the usual framework.
To serve everything to the listeners in the most stylish way, Andrew Lawrence-King, in addition to a month-long rehearsal period, has also given the musicians two workshops specifically related to this repertoire. Part of this material has also reached the program sheet, making listening to the concert even more exciting. The Tallinn Baroque Orchestra's rehearsal was also visited by the early music legend, Catalan viola da gamba virtuoso Jordi Savall, who recently thrilled audiences at the Arvo Pärt Center together with Xavier Díaz-Latorre and our Andrew Lawrence-King. The heroes of the upcoming evening, however, are Ribayaz, Hidalgo, Torrejón, Cabanilles, and others, whose creations, as befits a true music director, Andrew Lawrence-King has adapted for the Tallinn Baroque Orchestra.
