// Consent & The Nervous System workshop by Clare Zhou //

Are you someone who struggles to access your clear yes, no, or maybe?
Do you find it difficult to name your needs, express limits, or know the difference between what you truly want and what you're simply willing to tolerate?

Whether you're completely new to this work or looking to deepen your understanding, this space welcomes you just as you are — with your full humanity and all your survival strategies intact.

Compared to Clare’s other consent workshops, this one dives deeper into the body-based experience of consent. We’ll explore not just how we think about boundaries, but how they feel and operate in the nervous system. With a more somatic approach, this workshop focuses on how consent lives in the body, how trauma can shape our responses, and how we can build greater internal clarity, regulation, and embodied safety.

Together, we’ll practice:

  • Direct and embodied communication
  • Noticing and honoring boundaries
  • Differentiating between desire and compliance
  • We’ll explore how trauma and survival states can impact the ability to consent, through topics as "The 4F survival strategies" (Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn), Polyvagal theory and signs of overwhelm
  • How to recognize and manage triggers
  • Understanding survival states and learning how to move from freeze to connection

This is a space that gently encourages you to move towards the edges of your comfort zone. We may steep more deeply into difficulty and discomfort as part of learning — this work can stir stories stored in the body.

About our host
Clare Zhou (they/them) is a politicized somatic healing practitioner and consent educator. Their facilitation style is shaped by many roles they've held over the years — from decolonizing science teacher and yoga instructor, to mother, coach, and scientist.

Clare’s worldview is rooted in their lived experience as a white-bodied, queer, polyamorous, non-binary, working-class Chinese-American immigrant — and a recovering Catholic with invisible disabilities.

Their work is guided by a deep commitment to collective liberation, shaped by the teachings of healing justice, anti-oppression, and mutual care. They bring a grounded, heartful approach to everything they do — with room for complexity, contradiction, and deep transformation.

⚠️ Important Notes
This is a space to go towards the edges of comfort, will steep more deeply in difficulty or discomfort while learning, and may stir some stories stored in the body.

Due to the nature of the topic we cannot guarantee this is a trigger-free zone. One-on-one support is available and everything is optional. You are encouraged to come as you are. Active participation looks many ways (journaling, saying no to an activity, self-soothing, taking a break, sharing with the group, and so on).
