Out of 200 newbie comedians in total there can only be one winner of the Tuna: Newbie of the Year. The year round comedy competition that settles the important question: Which of these newbie comedians is the funniest in the Amsterdam Underground?

This is the first of two semi finals, containing the funniest 8 comedians of the first half of 2026! They had to get through 2 rounds to get to this stage: Newbie of the Week and Newbie of the Month. Both the winners of these titles and the runners up selected by comedians in the scene are competing in this semi final.

The comedian who progress from this round, combined with the ones from the second semi final in December will be going head to head in the big final where they can become the fourth ever Newbie of the Year following the footsteps of Adi Parmar, Kristina Jak and Joep Vermolen.

That Comedy Thing has been a stepping stone for beginning comedians in Amsterdam. We're all about new comedians and strive to be a propaganda machine for the exciting Amsterdam underground comedy scene.
