Performance by Sons of Jumira, as part of SNAPSHOTS #7: Transition through Transmission

Join us on October 8th at 18:30 for a performance by the Rotterdam-based collective Sons of Jumira, as part of our running exhibition Transition Through Transmission by Innavisions. Through fusing cultural inspirations with a commitment to pushing sonic boundaries, Sons of Jumira create a musical language rooted in storytelling and exploration.

With Double bassist Julian Tjon Sack Kie, drummer & percussionist Mill Voyance, and harpist Ranie Ribeiro, the ensemble draw inspiration from their ancestories, including the West African Mandinka concept of Jaliya, and the practice and art form of the Jali (griot).

Through improvisation, expressiveness, and experimentation, the group continuously responds to one another, creating a distinctive interpretation of jazz where different backgrounds and non-classical playing styles intersect.
