Closing Event of Practicing Freedom and Refusal: École du soir (The Evening School) by Christian Nyampeta

On Friday the 24th of April, join us for the Closing Event of Practicing Freedom and Refusal, as part of Sustaining the Otherwise. We'll be hosting École du soir (The Evening School), curated and convened by Christian Nyampeta. 

This program invites you into a space of collective feeling, cooperative thinking, and mutual action — following the themes of his film Director’s Notes (2025).  The evening begins with an introduction by Christian, from his base in New York. He will present a special screening of a film, shown exclusively for this event. We will round off the evening with drinks and a playlist curated by Christian, inspired by the themes of Director’s Notes (2025)

Director's Notes (2025) is a modular playlist describing some of the ideas behind Carnets d'Amérique, a fictional film in progress about an African writer visiting New York on a book tour, leading to adventures and encounters with collaborators, authorities, institutions and libraries.

We encourage guests to arrive early to view the exhibition and watch Director’s Notes before the program starts. Looking forward to seeing you there!
