Metro54, Amsterdam
We’re excited to welcome Anthony Joseph, renowned Trinidadian poet and researcher to our space next Thursday 29th October, for a Sonic Lecture — which is part of our running exhibition Snapshots 7: Transition Through Transmission by Innavisions. In his session, Anthony Joseph brings a repertoire of Afro-futurist syntax and Black surrealist writing to our space. Join us for this special evening to engage with his experimental sound and musicianship, afrofuturism and surrealism.
Dr Anthony Joseph is an award-winning Trinidadian poet, novelist, academic and musician whose singular body of work fuses spoken word, jazz, Afrobeat, funk and the rhythms of the Caribbean. Eliot Prize and a collaborator with artists including Meshell Ndegeocello, Archie Shepp and Shabaka Hutchings, Joseph has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Black music and literature. His 2022 poetry collection, Sonnets for Albert, won the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry 2022 and the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Poetry. He is the author of five poetry collections and three novels. His 2018 novel, Kitch: A Fictional Biography of a Calypso Icon, was shortlisted for the Republic of Consciousness Prize, the Royal Society of Literature's Encore Award, and the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Fiction.
