On October 17 at 7:00 PM in Almaty, science journalist and popularizer Asya Kazantseva will give a lecture titled "The science of delaying pleasure: Will (not) eating marshmallows lead to success?"

If you're interested in popular science, you've probably heard about the famous marshmallow test. According to this test, children who are able to delay gratification (by not eating the marshmallow right away) are supposedly more successful in life. However, modern research shows that this connection isn't so straightforward; the child's living conditions have a significant impact on the results. Additionally, there are many other experiments on delayed rewards, including neurobiological studies and experiments with animals.

The main question of the lecture is: Should we develop the ability to delay gratification in ourselves and our children? And if so, how do we do it correctly?

After the lecture, there will be a Q&A session where guests can ask their questions. There will also be an opportunity to purchase Asya Kazantseva's books with her autograph.

Asya Kazantseva is a science journalist, winner of the "Enlightener" award, and author of bestsellers on the human brain and behavior, including "Who Would Have Thought!", "Someone is Wrong on the Internet", "The Brain is Material", and "Where Do Children Come From?". She is a traveling lecturer. She has worked as the editor of the popular science program "Progress" on Channel Five, the "Program for the Future" on the Science 2.0 channel, and as the editor-in-chief at the magazine "Health". She has written popular science articles and columns for various media outlets (Republic, Around the World, Science in Focus, Troitsky Variant, BBC, N+1, and others). In 2024, she left Russia and now lives in Georgia.

The lecture will be held in Russian and will take place in the conference hall "Resident Ballroom" at the Resident City Hotel, located at: 23 Zheltoksan Street, Almaty.
