Under the moniker MAPLE POOLS, Danish artist Klaus Nielsen delves into the liminal spaces of lo-fi ambient indietronica,
merging organic textures with electronic experimentation.
A seasoned figure in the Danish music scene, Nielsen draws on his deep roots in indie rock and electronic production, layering atmospheric compositions that float between introspection and subtle complexity.
Nielsen’s journey began in the early 90s as a DJ, soon transitioning to indie rock as a keyboardist for bands like Mew (1997-2001) and Sterling (2004-2006). He later co-founded HeWhoRock with Andreas Asbirk, a sample-driven rock duo that forged an underground presence until 2010. Now, with MAPLE POOLS, he channels these years of eclectic experience into a project defined by haunting melodies and a tender, lo-fi ethos.
In MAPLE POOLS, influences from The Art of Noise, Kate Bush, The Orb, and Erik Satie create a soundscape at once cinematic
and refreshingly raw. With inspirations as varied as Beastie Boys and the avant-garde textures of Fleshquartet, Nielsen’s work feels like a bridge between eras and genres, seamlessly integrating acoustic instruments with electronic layers that feel both familiar and otherworldly.
Though unapologetically genre-bending, Nielsen’s approach is unmistakably his own—a candid mix of ambient, electronica, and indie rock that captures the essence of introspection.
