The Forum centres on Klaus Schwab, the 81-year-old founder of the World Economic Forum, the non-for-profit organisation that looks to improve the state of the world through dialogue between leaders across all areas of society.
It follows Schwab for a year when the world is dealing with issues including the climate crisis, Brexit, France’s ‘gilets jaunes’ protests, the burning of the Amazon rainforest, and the US-China trade war. US president Donald Trump, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg are among those to appear in the film.
It is a German-Swiss production by Christian Beetz for his company Gebrueder Beetz Filmproduktion in co-production with Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion and Filmperspektive. Gebrueder Beetz Filmproduktion is handling worldwide sales on the film.
German documentarian Vetter has previously made films including 2016’s Killing For Love, about the 1985 murders of Americans Nancy and Derek Haysom; and 2008’s The Heart Of Jenin, about a Palestinian father whose son is shot by Israeli forces, which won best documentary at the German Film Awards.
