Bitter Tongues Session #4: Love in Exile

Zaterdag 18. april om 19:30 - 22:00

Metro54, Amsterdam

Join us for Session #4: Love in Exile on April 18th for an evening of Performative readings. We invite participants and our audience to question what it means to divorce a namesake, a homeland — to dream of normalcy until you arrive there. To feel at once in love and in despair with your diaspora. To see death from afar, to hear the screams as whispers, to mutter a verse, hoping it will reach the shore.

With Bitter tongues, our intention is to amplify voices of resistance. We hope to provoke a fruitful resonance of drama and discourse; to question the role of politics and language(s) in our society — but also in our imaginations. We have so often seen the way a voice can be folded, forcefully funnelled and fractured to fit a false form. We would like to provide a space for individuals and collectives to gain ownership of their own culture(s) and artistic voice.

Line up TBA

A stinging scent, a sordid sacrifice.

A forgotten song floats down the river.

A cupboard door torn off its hinges,

Remembers the time it was left open,

Screamed into, my country is broken!

The dictator is dead.
